Hamilton County, USA - The upcoming Hamilton County 4-H Fair is set to be more than just an entertaining county fair; it marks a pivotal moment in the transformation of the fairgrounds, now rebranded as “The Silos at 37 Hamilton County: 4-H Fairgrounds and Events Center.” Jane Sipe from Hamilton County Extension recently appeared on WISH-TV’s Daybreak to share insights about the fair and the exciting renovations underway. The multi-million dollar project aims to elevate the experience for fairgoers while preserving the cherished community spirit of the event. This year’s fair runs from July 17-21, and guess what? Admission is free!

The anticipated jewel of the fairgrounds, the new Bicentennial Pavilion, will make its debut in the near future. A tour is scheduled for Thursday, giving visitors a sneak peek at the modern enhancements being made. This pavilion is replacing the O.V. Winks and Annex Buildings, which will be removed to allow for the expansion of Pleasant Street. Local officials, including Hamilton County Commissioners Mark Heirbrandt, Christine Altman, and Steve Dillinger, provided their support during a groundbreaking ceremony for the pavilion back in July 2023, marking the beginning of a journey that is transforming the Hamilton County 4-H Fair.

Generational Connections

At its core, the Hamilton County 4-H Fair is about family and community. Sipe emphasized the importance of bringing together multiple generations. Youth participants will showcase their projects, and families will be right there cheering them on. Fairgoers can expect to see an array of projects, from the impressive to the innovative, reflecting the hard work and creativity of the young and young-at-heart alike.

And let’s be honest, one of the best things about any fair is the food! Fair favorites like corn on the cob, cobbler, fluffy elephant ears, pizza, walking tacos, chicken and noodles, beef and noodles, and sloppy joes will all be on the menu. You might want to arrive hungry!

A Lineup of Fun Activities

The fair will be packed with engaging activities for all ages. Each day will feature a variety of events that include everything from public speaking contests to swine shows. For those who appreciate a bit of animal charm, there will be a 4-H Llama Junior Showmanship, and for seasoned competitors, the antique tractor pull is always a sight to behold.

And let’s not overlook the live entertainment! With music courtesy of Bracken DJ & Sound Company, guests can enjoy a lively atmosphere that adds to the fair’s festive charm.

Future Phases Ahead

The renovations don’t stop with the Bicentennial Pavilion. Sources indicate that additional phases of construction are on the horizon, contingent upon funding. These plans include two new silos at the main entrance and replacement of seven outdoor buildings with eight air-conditioned structures, ensuring the fairgrounds can be enjoyed all year round. Enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that construction on Phase I is set to kick off this fall, paving the way for a vibrant future of fairs and community events.

As Hamilton County gears up for this year’s fair, it’s clear that these enhancements are not just about new buildings; they’re about building connections, making memories, and celebrating the community spirit that has long defined the Hamilton County 4-H Fair. Join in the festivities and witness firsthand the transformation of a beloved tradition.
