The Bemidji State University Softball team wrapped up a challenging run at the Space Coast Complex in Florida, finishing with a record of 6-15 after four games, managing to snag just one victory. A mix of tough competition and some unfortunate mishaps resulted in the Beavers coming away with a mixed bag of experiences as their trip continues to unfold.

In their opening match, Bemidji State faced off against Thomas More University but fell short, losing 4-1. The Thomas More team struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning which set the tone for the game. The Beavers did manage to plate a run in the sixth inning due to a fielding error, but Thomas More responded by adding two more runs in the seventh inning. Brianna Ness took to the mound, pitching a complete game where she allowed six hits and two earned runs, showing she can hold her own despite the tough outing, as Bemidji State reports.

The Road Ahead

The next challenge for the Beavers was against Bentley University, which proved similarly daunting. Bemidji State lost 9-3, with Bentley lighting up the scoreboard for seven unearned runs in just the second inning. While the Beavers managed to rally in the fifth inning, scoring there, it wasn’t enough to change the game’s outcome. Keira Lucero and Danica Sarff shared pitching duties during the game, with Sarff notably performing well in relief, further challenging the rivalry between the teams.

However, not all was lost. The Beavers bounced back with an impressive 9-5 victory against Goldey-Beacom College, capitalizing on four errors made by their opponents. With 13 hits in total, Kassandra Balabon shone brightly, contributing two hits and scoring three runs. Danica Sarff started the game on the mound and was later relieved by Keira Lucero, who pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings, helping to secure the much-needed win. It was a reminder of what the team can do when they bring their A-game, as highlighted by BMU.

Close Contests

In their final match of the tournament, Bemidji State faced D’Youville University and lost a nail-biter with a score of 5-4. The Beavers initially struggled, allowing D’Youville to take the lead, but they managed to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning, showing grit and determination. Unfortunately, D’Youville pulled ahead again in the sixth inning, sealing the Beavers’ fate. Brianna Ness and Sydney Klusman pitched effectively, combining efforts to allow 9 hits and 5 runs, which speaks volumes about their resilience.

Looking ahead, the Beavers will take on Malone University on March 11, 2026, at 10 AM EST, followed by a match against the nationally ranked No. 11 University of Indianapolis later that afternoon at 2:30 PM EST. As they continue their journey, the team remains hopeful that their hard work will pay off, and with vital lessons learned from past games, there could still be a silver lining on the horizon.

As we cheer on our local athletes, it’s encouraging to observe how they embrace these experiences, shaping them into better players and fostering teamwork. The season is long, and there’s something to be said for persistence!
