Tallahassee, USA - The Florida State University (FSU) baseball team is making headlines as it gears up for the upcoming season. After a quiet exit from the postseason last week, the Seminoles have set their sights on improving their roster by tapping into the transfer portal. The latest addition comes in the form of Kevin Mebil, a promising left-handed pitcher from Division II Barry University. Mebil announced his commitment to FSU on Friday, joining the ranks of other recent recruits who are looking to make an impact on the team.

Kevin Mebil had an impressive run at Barry, boasting a remarkable 2.04 ERA and a 1.4 WHIP over his time on the mound, during which he logged 35.1 innings and struck out 42 batters. Opponents struggled against him, hitting just .211. At 6’0″ and weighing 195 lbs, Mebil packs a powerful punch with his fastball ranging between 91-94 mph, peaking at an impressive 95 mph. Additionally, he has two years of eligibility left, which the Seminoles are excited to utilize close to home.

Building a Strong Roster

Alongside Mebil, FSU has also welcomed infielder Eli Putnam from Davidson and pitcher Trey Beard from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) into their fold. Beard, another exciting prospect, previously pitched to a 3.14 ERA with 118 strikeouts across 86 innings and has been highlighted as one of the top transfers, ranking at No. 36 in 2026 college rankings according to Baseball America.

Mebil made the move to enter the transfer portal on May 13, after spending one season at FAU where he redshirted prior to his successful stint at Barry. His former pitching coach, Ben Terwilliger, commended Mebil’s character, coachability, and relentless work ethic via social media, asserting that these qualities will serve him well as he makes the jump to a major program like FSU.

What’s Next for FSU?

As the Seminoles gear up for the 2026 season, they continue to assess their needs and seek talented players through the transfer portal. As highlighted by Chop Chat, the transfer portal is teeming with potential prospects. This phase of team-building not only allows for injecting fresh talent into the roster but also enables FSU to address specific gaps that may have arisen post-season. The program is on the lookout for additional players to strengthen their position ahead of the challenging season ahead.

As we watch the developments unfold, one thing is clear: FSU baseball is taking strides to ensure their competitiveness by leveraging their resources effectively. With the acquisitions of Mebil, Beard, and Putnam, the excitement around the 2026 season is palpable, and fans are eagerly anticipating what these new talents will bring to the diamond.
