Today is the 28.02.2026, and we’re excited to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the Peach State Summer Theatre (PSST) in the recent Broadway World Tallahassee awards. The theater community in Tallahassee was buzzing as PSST walked away with nine prestigious awards for its outstanding 2025 season, confirming its status as a regional powerhouse in the performing arts.
Among the award-winning productions were beloved classics like “The Wizard of Oz,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” and “A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline.” Notably, PSST clinched the Favorite Local Theatre honor for the fourth consecutive year, a testament to its enduring appeal and the hard work of its talented cast and crew. Artistic director Hank Rion expressed his pride, emphasizing the significance of these awards for the entire PSST community.
Celebrating Talent and Excellence
Rion’s direction of “Little Shop of Horrors” earned him the Best Direction of a Musical award, while “The Wizard of Oz” shone brightly with accolades for Best Musical and Best Ensemble. The individual talents of the cast from “The Wizard of Oz” were also recognized, with five members receiving awards:
- Aubrey Anderson: Best Performer in a Musical
- Clara Jean Kelly: Best Costume Design of a Play or Musical
- Sarah Wildes Arnett: Best Choreography of a Play or Musical
- Zach Cramer: Best Sound Design of a Play or Musical
- John Hemphill Jr.: Best Lighting of a Play or Musical
PSST, which is located on the campus of Valdosta State University, has become Georgia’s premiere professional summer stock theatre since its inception in 1990 as the Jekyll Island Musical Theatre Festival. It was renamed PSST in 2005, and the Georgia Legislature has since designated it as the Official Musical Theatre of the State of Georgia. H. Duke Guthrie serves as the managing director, ensuring that the theatre continues to thrive.
