Beloved Manchester Farmer Roger Robinson Passes Away at 84
Roger Anthony Robinson, a cherished member of the Manchester community, passed away at his home on August 8, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on September 1, 1940, on his family farm in Silver Creek, Iowa, Roger was the son of Anthony Thomas and Alice Elizabeth (Shaw) Robinson. His education began at Coggon High School, where he graduated in 1958, before embarking on his college journey at Iowa State University. Later, Roger served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, a commitment that would shape his strong sense of duty and community engagement.
Roger married Carol Ann Schroder on August 2, 1964, in West Union, and together they welcomed two children, Christopher and Dr. Hilary Roy. The family cultivated a close-knit bond that extended beyond their immediate household. For years, Roger farmed near Masonville, a backdrop where he also cherished winter escapes to the sunny shores of Florida. His contributions to the community were numerous; he was actively involved with Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan, serving on various boards including the Zion Lutheran Church Board and Delaware County Fair Board.
A Life in Service
Throughout his life, Roger’s dedication to service went beyond his boards and meetings. A proud member of the Ryan American Legion, he relished engaging in his favorite pastimes—whether it was hitting the golf course, sharing morning coffee with friends, or enjoying the great outdoors with his family. As a devoted husband, Roger is survived by Carol, as well as his son Christopher Robinson and daughter Dr. Hilary (Holger) Roy, along with two grandsons, Christopher Michael Roy and Liam Shaun Roy. His siblings, James (Nancy) Robinson, Marilyn Meline, and Donna Wolmutt, along with their families, also remember him fondly.
His family expressed their gratitude to Dr. Scot Christiansen and the compassionate staff of Care Initiatives Hospice, who provided support during his final days. Roger was predeceased by his parents, four brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a niece, Wendy Wolmutt Blackburn, whose memory remains in the hearts of those who loved them.
