Ebro, Spain - As temperatures rise, residents of Euskadi are bracing for a challenging weather forecast. The region has been placed under a yellow alert due to impending high temperatures and intense rainfall expected over the next few days. According to DEIA, the alert will stretch from Tuesday to Wednesday, setting the stage for potentially extreme weather conditions.

This coming Tuesday, the thermometer could hit an alarming high of 35 degrees Celsius along the Ebro axis, while coastal areas will experience bearable temperatures around 25 degrees. The yellow alert for high temperatures is set to be active from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, reminding all to stay hydrated and mindful of the heat. Fortunately, the winds will shift from the south to the north by noon, offering some relief as they cool down the temperatures in the afternoon.

Rain and Thunderstorms Ahead

As if the soaring temperatures weren’t enough, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall will also be in effect. Starting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday and continuing into the night, rainfall could surpass 15 liters per square meter in just one hour. With thunderstorms forecasted, particularly in the western parts of the region, residents should be prepared for the possibility of hail up to 4 cm and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 90 km/h.

Moving into Wednesday, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 33 degrees in the Cantabrian interior, continuing the trend of warmth. The yellow alert for intense rainfall will shift timings and will be active from 3:00 PM to midnight. Residents may encounter similar rainfall concerns, with intense downpours expected again later in the day.

Broader Context of Heat Alerts in Spain

This trend isn’t isolated to Euskadi. In a wider context, EPE reports that a wave of extreme heat continues to affect Spain, with significant orange and yellow alerts issued for a variety of regions. The Agency for Meteorology has announced that high temperatures up to 39 degrees are expected in Mallorca, and the hottest areas could see temperatures soaring to 43 degrees in parts of Jaén. The alerts cover much of the interior and northeast, leaving only a few regions, including Galicia and Asturias, unscathed.

As summer approaches, locals are reminded of the essential precautions to take during these extreme weather events—frequent hydration, wearing breathable clothing, seeking shade, and using high-factor sunscreen are all good practices to adopt. With such fiery weather on hand, being prepared is better than being caught off-guard.
