Today is April 26, 2026, and DeSoto County is buzzing with excitement as the highly anticipated DeSoto Grand Parade rolls into town. This year, organizers expect an impressive turnout, with an estimated 100,000 attendees flocking to Manatee Avenue to witness the festivities. With more than 150 floats lined up to participate, it’s shaping up to be a night to remember!
Among the colorful floats is one from the Krewe of F-Troop Tampa, featuring their iconic float “Fort Courage,” a nod to the beloved 1960s military sitcom. Rob Fisher, the president of Krewe of F-Troop Tampa, has been a familiar face at the parade for over 20 years, and he’s eager to share the joy of the event with families from all across the county. The parade promises to be fun and interactive, throwing between 2.5 to 3 million beads, along with stuffed animals, glow sticks, and even moon pies!
Getting to the Parade
If you’re planning to join in the fun, it’s important to know the best routes to take. For those coming from Palmetto, use the Green Bridge or the US41/301 Bridge south to 3rd Avenue. Just a heads up: 9th Street W will be closed after 3rd Avenue, but you can turn right or left at that intersection.
East Bradenton visitors should take Manatee Avenue/SR64 to 2nd Street E, passing by the Manatee Memorial Hospital and Skate Park, then turn right to head downtown. If you’re coming from West Bradenton, take Manatee Avenue/SR64 to 43rd Street W, then make a series of turns to reach downtown before the festivities kick off. For those in South Bradenton, head north on US41/301 to 9th Avenue W, and follow the signs to downtown as well. Just remember that southern traffic from Palmetto will be restricted after 6 PM, so plan accordingly! You can find more detailed traffic information on DeSoto HQ.
