Travelers and residents in Manitowoc County should be on alert for several upcoming road closures due to essential construction work, as the Manitowoc County Highway Department gears up for a series of culvert replacements. Starting the week of June 9, multiple culverts on County Highway XX will be replaced, leading to daily closures that are expected to last for three weeks.

Each closure will commence at 6 a.m. and roads are set to reopen by the end of the day, ensuring the disruption to daily traffic is kept to a minimum. Drivers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the posted detours, which will direct traffic from State Highway 67 north to County X, east to County A, and back south. According to Yahoo News, the work will start on the west end of County XX before moving towards County A.

More Road Closures on the Horizon

The Highway Department isn’t stopping with County XX. Another critical culvert replacement is scheduled on County C, where closures will take place on July 15, blocking access between State Highway 67 and Lax Chapel Road for the entire day. This closure will also follow a detour route guiding traffic from State Highway 67 to U.S. 151, then on to County A and finally to County C. HTR News detailed further that this project is a continuation of essential maintenance work being performed across the county.

The importance of these projects cannot be overstated. With the ongoing weather challenges, the timely replacement of culverts is vital for maintaining safe and efficient travel routes. Local traffic will still have access to residences and businesses during these closures, but delays may be experienced.

Ongoing Improvements

Manitowoc County has been proactive in addressing road safety and infrastructure, with recent projects already underway on various county highways. For instance, CTH “R” from CTH “P” to STH 310 has been opened for local traffic since May 8, and includes milling and paving work aimed at improving road conditions. Similar projects on CTH “Y” and CTH “Q” have also been ongoing, with estimated completions due in early July, contingent on weather conditions. The official announcement from the county’s Highway Department emphasizes that while these roads are closed to through traffic, access will be maintained for local residents and necessary detours will be clearly marked on the county’s website.

As the construction season heats up, Manitowoc County residents should stay informed about road conditions and potential delays. With the Highway Department’s commitment to enhancing safety and infrastructure, these temporary inconveniences promise long-term benefits for all who travel these routes.
