On July 17, 2025, the vibrant city of Sarasota witnessed a remarkable addition to its local retail scene with the grand opening of a new CITY Furniture showroom, spanning a generous 120,000 square feet. The event kicked off with a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony, delighting thousands of attendees during a four-day celebration that featured $70,000 in giveaways, lively DJs, and a variety of food trucks. According to Furninfo, the atmosphere was electric, setting the tone for what CITY Furniture hopes will be a cornerstone of the community.

The new showroom does more than just sell furniture; it brings together a Custom Design Gallery, a Home Theater Gallery, and unofficially, the largest mattress gallery in Florida. The inclusion of an in-store Café & Wine Bar adds a unique touch, making it not just a shopping destination but a community hub for events and interactions.

Supporting this expansion is a massive 1.3 million-square-foot Plant City Distribution Center, ensuring that customers receive timely and efficient service. The family-owned company prides itself on innovation and sustainability, backed by its well-regarded 5% Giving Pledge, which fosters community support.

The Evolving Landscape of Furniture Shopping

As CITY Furniture opens its doors to a new era of furniture shopping, the landscape itself is shifting rapidly. A recent study from MyHFA reveals intriguing trends. While a staggering 90% of furniture sales occur in-store, it’s fascinating to note that 90% of customer journeys begin online. Customers are increasingly blending their online and in-store shopping experiences.

Understanding this dynamic is crucial for retailers. Shoppers typically explore about three websites and visit three physical stores before making a purchase, seeking a mix of familiarity and variety. However, while online-only shoppers value convenience and price, in-store customers often look for discounts or special offers. Interestingly, older buyers tend to prefer in-store shopping, whereas younger generations are more inclined towards online and hybrid experiences, reflecting a wider societal trend.

Moreover, 3D technology is making waves in the furniture retail world, enhancing visualization and customization options. The study found that about two-thirds of consumers favor retailers that offer 3D experiences, with 77% feeling more informed when using these tools. This intertwining of technology and retail not only meets evolving consumer demands but also sets stores like CITY Furniture apart in a competitive market.

The new Sarasota showroom stands as a testament to CITY Furniture’s dedication to innovation amidst these shifts. Their approach combines the tactile nature of in-store shopping with the conveniences of the digital world, catering to a variety of consumer preferences. As the furniture retail landscape continues to evolve, CITY Furniture appears well-positioned to thrive by embracing change and focusing on what truly matters: customer experience.
