As we gear up for the grand opening of the new Largo City Hall, excitement is buzzing throughout the community. Set to open its doors on May 19, 2023, this impressive project represents a significant leap forward for Largo. With a hefty price tag of $85 million, it’s not just a new building; it’s a symbol of the city’s growth and future aspirations. Located right in the heart of Largo, this modern facility promises to be a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike.

The construction kicked off in October 2022, initially slated for completion by the end of 2024. However, as many of us know all too well, unexpected delays from the pandemic and hurricanes pushed the timeline back. But, the wait is almost over! The community’s input has been invaluable, with 279 survey responses, multiple stakeholder focus groups, webinars, workshops, and public feedback sessions ensuring that the City Hall truly reflects the needs and desires of its citizens.

A Modern Marvel

Designed with an eye for modernity, the new City Hall boasts plenty of glass and showcases artwork from local artists, making it not just functional but also an aesthetic delight. The facilities are impressive, featuring over 23 meeting rooms, nine private phone booths, and two training rooms. There’s even a community space that can host events for up to 150 people! Not to mention, it will also be home to popular retail tenants like Parlor Doughnuts, Louis Pappas Fresh Greek, and Strachan’s Ice Cream. Yum!

For those who are eco-conscious, there’s a 340-kW solar array spread across more than 25,000 square feet. Plus, the free parking garage will accommodate over 300 vehicles, featuring 11 electric vehicle charging stations. Talk about convenience! The second floor will provide access to community development services and permits, while the third and fourth floors will house the fire department, engineering, and IT services. And let’s not forget the mayor’s office and city administration on the fifth floor, which offers a stunning panoramic view of Largo!

A Community-Centered Approach

Chris Tillett, the head of economic development, has called this project the biggest investment the city has ever made. The goal? To spur retail and business development in the downtown area. That sounds like a win-win for everyone involved! The community can look forward to more than just a new building; they can expect a revitalization of the downtown experience. Interestingly enough, the city is even on the hunt for a destination restaurant and a bar/brewery concept to add to the mix!
