As Oldsmar continues to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the community is coming together to support those affected. Dozens of homes have suffered significant storm surge damage, leaving many residents grappling with the loss of power and internet access. The impact of the hurricane has been felt deeply, with reports of water marks on homes and vehicles serving as stark reminders of the storm’s ferocity.
In response to the disaster, Oldsmar Cares has stepped up to provide assistance to families in need. The organization, which has been active since 1997, has received an overwhelming number of inquiries about how the community can pitch in. Michelle Baldwin, chairperson of Oldsmar Cares, emphasized the heartbreaking reality that many individuals have lost everything and are in dire need of support.
How You Can Help
Oldsmar Cares is currently accepting donations to help those affected by the hurricane. With ongoing cleanup efforts, the organization has been inundated with donations, including clothes, food, and cleaning supplies. However, there is still a pressing need for specific items. Currently, the most sought-after donations include cleaning supplies, children’s clothing, and storage boxes.
To facilitate the donation process, Oldsmar Cares is extending its hours on Wednesdays, remaining open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for those who wish to contribute. This is a wonderful opportunity for community members to come together and make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbors.
City Support and Cleanup Efforts
The city has partnered with a debris collection and removal company to aid in the cleanup, although specific pickup times have yet to be established. This partnership aims to streamline the recovery process and ensure that debris is cleared promptly, making way for families to begin the healing journey.
As cleanup efforts continue and the community rallies to support one another, it is clear that Oldsmar’s resilience shines through in challenging times. Every contribution, no matter how small, can help restore hope and stability in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Helene.
