Doc’s passions extended to running and cycling, activities that kept him engaged and active. In 1997, at the age of 65, he closed his clinic and joined the Peace Corps, where he was stationed in Ecuador. It was there that he met his wife, Helga, and together they traveled across the United States in an RV, participating in races and soaking up the beauty of their surroundings.

Doc leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Helga, daughters Claire and Diane, and several grandchildren. To honor his life and legacy, a celebration will be held on March 15, 2026, at 6:30 PM at Patriot’s Pier in Siesta Key. Friends and family are invited to gather and reflect on the life of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
