Today is May 12, 2026, and excitement is buzzing around Edgewood as we dive into the latest nominees for the PuroClean of Melbourne Boys Athlete of the Week! From May 4 to May 10, local athletes have been showcasing their incredible talents, and now it’s time for the community to weigh in. Voting is open until Thursday, May 14, at noon, so don’t miss your chance to support these outstanding young competitors! You can cast your vote over at Florida Today.
Last week, Jesse Decter from Merritt Island Baseball took home the title. It’s great to see the talent and hard work of these athletes celebrated! Coaches and Athletic Directors have until Sunday at 10 a.m. to nominate future athletes by emailing Prepscores@floridatoday.com.
Meet the Nominees
Let’s take a look at the impressive nominees this week:
- Evan Spreitzer, Holy Trinity Track: This kid is a powerhouse, winning the state title in the 1600m with a stunning time of 4:14.51 at the Class 1A Finals in Jacksonville on May 6. He didn’t stop there—he also snagged second place in the 3200m (9:26.77) and was part of the 4x800m relay team that finished third.
- Camryn McRoy, Holy Trinity Track: Another standout from Holy Trinity, Camryn took second in both the 110m and 400m hurdles at the Class 1A Finals. Plus, he contributed to a 4x100m relay team that finished sixth—what an effort!
- Malik Evans, Cocoa Track: Malik had a busy weekend at the Class 2A State Championships, finishing 12th in the 100m and 4th in the 200m, and he was part of the 4x100m relay team that came in 8th.
- Jonas Dowdell, Edgewood Track: Our local hero, Jonas, shined bright by winning the state title in the 3200m with a time of 9:31.07 at the same Class 2A championships!
- Landon Plechaty, West Shore Track: Landon showed his strength by taking second place in the javelin at the Class 2A championships.
- Christopher Gordon, Rockledge Track: This athlete had a spectacular showing at the Class 3A Championships, taking home the state title in the 400m, a second-place finish in the 200m, and a third in the 100m—talk about a hat trick!
- Michal Paul, Viera Track: Michal earned a bronze in the long jump and placed 6th in the 400m at the Class 4A State Championships, adding to the competitive spirit of the week.
These athletes represent the very best of local talent, and it’s a real treat to see them push their limits and achieve such remarkable feats. It’s hard not to feel inspired watching these young competitors strive for greatness!
