The AERO 2026 event has showcased an impressive array of new developments in the realm of certified aircraft, drawing significant interest from aviation enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. As highlighted by FliGermagazin, the complexities and costs involved in obtaining EASA and FAA certifications for light aircraft have made many manufacturers seek alternative pathways, including offering aircraft as kits or experimental models. This strategic shift allows them to navigate the otherwise exhaustive regulatory landscape.

At this year’s show, two notable aircraft are powered by the highly efficient Rotax 916iS engine, further enhancing their appeal. Among these, a standout is the BRM Aero’s Bristell B23, which recently received its EASA certification on December 17, 2025. According to AeroKurier, the Bristell B23 is particularly significant as it is the first aircraft certified under CS-23 with the powerful Rotax 916 iS engine, capable of delivering 160 HP with an elaborate fuel injection system.

Innovative Aircraft Introductions

Among the innovative models introduced at AERO 2026, the Slovakian manufacturer Aerospool has revealed its four-seater WT10 Advantic. Made from composite materials, this aircraft features a retractable landing gear and is designed with versatility in mind. It is available as a kit and boasts a fast-build version that can be assembled in around 400 hours. What’s more, the aircraft can be registered as an experimental model in the Echo class, making it a flexible option for many budding aviators.

Meanwhile, the Italian company Alpi Aviation unveiled the Pioneer 400, a self-build four-seater constructed from wood and also utilizing the Rotax 916iS engine. This aircraft combines traditional craftsmanship with advanced technology, featuring a Garmin G3X Touch avionics system and a full rescue setup, making it a commendable choice for adventure seekers.

Another notable presence is by Cirrus Aircraft, which has showcased its SR20 and SR22 models from the G7 generation, equipped with the advanced Perspective Touch glass cockpit. Additionally, their G7+ variant is the first piston-engine aircraft to include an automatic emergency landing system called “Safe Return,” enhancing safety for all passengers.

Diamond Aircraft has made headlines by resuming production of the Katana in Europe, now named DA20i, and features a Rotax 912 iS engine. On the flip side, Robin has successfully navigated its financial challenges, now featuring the DR401 with a new Rotax 916 iS engine, marking a strong comeback.

Tecnam also made waves by presenting the new generation (NG) of its P2008JC trainer, showcasing its modern hybrid build with aluminum wings and a carbon-fiber fuselage. This two-seater is fully compliant with the CS23 standard. Aviators anticipating surprises were left intrigued by the announcement of yet more additions scheduled for later in the event.
